Yoelkis Guibert then drove home Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert Jr., increasing the lead to 4-1. Rixon Wingrove put up a two-run homer for Australia in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as Cuba held off their opponents for the victory.

A scoreless inning was pitched by Cuban relievers Livan Moinelo and Raidel Martinez, both of whom pitch for Japanese professional teams. He threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief of Cuban starter Yariel Rodriguez in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. The Cuban starter went 3.1 innings and allowed two hits and a run.
