Ottawa Senators vs Colorado Avalanche - NHL prediction
- Title : Ottawa Senators vs Colorado Avalanche - NHL prediction
The Colorado Avalanche will try to climb in the Western Conference standings when they visit the struggling Ottawa Senators
In a matchup between two teams that have underachieved this season, the Ottawa Senators are hosting the Colorado Avalanche in Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Senators are currently the worst team in the league with a 5-15-1 record and only 11 points and that wasn’t the only problem they have. They had three games postponed as a result of 10 players in NHL Covid-19 protocol in the second half of November.
Their return to the ice didn’t bring much success since they lost five straight games before snapping the losing streak in their last game which Ottawa won 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
Alex Formenton scored twice and Josh Norris broke a tie 19 seconds after the Senators lost the lead in the third period for Ottawa’s fifth win of the season. Tyler Ennis notched two assists for the Senators, who had allowed at least four goals in each of their six previous games. Anton Forsberg made a career-high 47 saves for Ottawa.
The Senators are 3-8-0 on their home ice. Ottawa averages 10.5 penalty minutes per game, the fifth-most in the league. Brady Tkachuk leads the team serving 52 total minutes.
The team that was considered the top favorite to win the Stanley Cup this season is probably the biggest disappointment as the Colorado Avalanche are fifth in the Central Division and tenth in the Western Conference with a 12-7-1 record.
After a pretty bad start, the Avalanche have regrouped lately winning eight of the last ten games none of them with less than two goals differential.
In their last game, Colorado won 4-1 in Montreal. Cale Makar scored to put Colorado ahead in the second period, Valeri Nichushkin had a goal and an assist. Andre Borkovsky and Gabriel Landeskog also scored for the Avalanche, who bounced back from an ugly 8-3 loss at Toronto a night earlier.
Goalie Jonas Johansson made 19 saves for Colorado, playing on back-to-back nights because starter Darcy Kuemper is out with an upper-body injury.
The Avalanche are 5-5-0 on the road. Colorado averages 10.8 points per game to lead the league, recording 4.0 goals and 6.8 assists per game.
- Both teams have split the last ten head-to-heads but the Colorado Avalanche have won four of the last five
- Seven of the last ten games between these two have gone over 5.5 goals
- Erik Brannstrom, Josh Brown, Shane Pinto and Colin White are all out for the Senators
- J.T. Compher, Darcy Kuemper and Stefan Matteau are all out for the Avalanche while Ryan Murray will be a game-time decision
The Colorado Avalanche are in great form lately with a long way to go to reach the top of the conference where they belong and the game against the worst team in the league is one with no other option than an easy win. The Senators are still far from any competitive form and that will be shown tonight in Ottawa. Colorado’s win is a safe bet as it gets.
