Washington Nationals vs New York Mets MLB Predictions 10/08

NL East action here because the ny Mets begin a series with the Washington Nationals. For a couple of reasons, it’s a touch ridiculous that the Nationals are this big of an underdog here.

Sure the Nats haven’t played their best recently, but most their recent losses are very close games where they still put runs on the board. In fact, they’ve scored a minimum of 4 runs in each of their last 6 losses. That’s quite the Mets are scoring on most nights lately . ny has lost 4 during a row, and seven of their past 8. During this current 4-game skid, they’ve scored only 7 total runs.

How anyone could possibly lay quite -200 with them here is beyond me. this is often a team that’s in free-fall, while the Nationals rank 4th altogether of baseball in OPS over the last 30 days. Mets starter Carlos Carrasco has made only 2 appearances all season, and he hasn’t made it out of the 5th inning in either of them. Washington starter Paolo Espino has been a pleasing surprise, and he’s got a 3.66 ERA even after getting hit hard his last outing . Getting 2/1 with the Nationals here is an absolute steal. So i'm going for Nationals plus 0.5 within the first 5 innings.

I think the over also makes some sense here. Like I just mentioned, Washington’s offense has actually been quite consistent recently. The Nationals are scoring a minimum of four runs just about on a nightly basis, and they’re big underdogs here, yet somehow the entire is merely at 8. There are a minimum of 9 total runs scored in 8 of the past 9 games for the Nats. Espino may be a 34-year-old who had made all of two big-league appearances since 2017 before this season, so his relatively hot start to 2021 alright might be a fluke. Even the Mets should be ready to plate a minimum of a couple of runs here. this may only be Carrasco’s third start since September of last year, and he’s need to go against a hot lineup. Both bullpens have also been shaky recently. With all this over i see Nationals make atleast 3 points and go here over the two .5 total points.
