Ruud is coming off a routine 6-1, 6-3 win over Laslo Djere in the round of 16 after he previously defeated Alexander Bublik, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 and Arthur Rindernech 6-4, 6-0. 

Ruud already won one tournament this season, defeating Miomir Kecmanovic in the final in Estoril.

Previously in Rome, he has made it to the semifinals twice, losing to Novak Djokovic in both occasions in 2020 and 2022.

Cerundolo is ranked 21st in the world at the moment, seven places lower than his career-high. The 24-year-old is 17-12 for the season and 10-7 on clay.

He made a huge upset in the previous round defeating the top ranked Italian player, Jannik Sinner, by 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. His previous two matches also went into the decisive sets and the Argentinian prevailed against Gregoire Barrere and Yiging Wu.

Cerundolo's best result this season was the quarterfinal in Miami where he lost to Karen Khachanov.

Ruud had a quite easy road to this stage while Cerundolo played three sets in all of the previous matches in Rome. These two know each other really well so there will be no surprises when it comes to the game plan. Despite the fact that the Argentian has won the last two matches, Ruud will show why he is in the top 10 for the last two years. He made it to the semifinals the last two times he played in Rome and there is no way Cerundolo will stop him on the way to get back there. Given the odds, this seems like it would be a tight match, but actually, Ruud will win this one quite easily.
