Details:

The world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has an eye on her third Grand Slam title and first in her home country. The 25-year-old missed the second part of last season but showed up ready for the new season

Barty is 10-0 in 2022 winning the tournament in Adelaide and making the final in Melbourne.

Barty has been absolutely dominating on her way to the finals not losing more than four games in a single set in the tournament.

The Australian is coming off a 6-1, 6-3 win over Madison Keys in the semifinals. Bart needed only 62 minutes to advance to the finals converting 86% of her first serve and hitting 20 winners.

She had an even easier job in the quarterfinals defeating Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-0.

Previously, Barty defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-3, Camelia Giorgi 6-2, 6-3, Lucia Bronzetti 6-, 6-1 and Lesya Tsurenko 6-0, 6-1.

The Cinderella story of the tournament is certainly Danielle Collins.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the 28-year-old American made it all the way to the finals and with the tennis she played, she absolutely deserved it.

World No. 30 is coming off a 6-4, 6-1 win over Iga Swiatek in the semifinals. Collins spent 1 hour and 18 minutes on the court. She won 78% of the points on her first serve and produced 27 winners.

In the quarterfinals, Collins went past Alize Cornet winning by 7-5, 6-1. Previously, she defeated Elise Mertens 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in round 16 and also came back from a set down against Clara Tauson winning by 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

The first two rounds were not as demanding as Collins went past Ana Konjuh and Caroline Dolehide is straight sets.

Key facts

  • This is Barty’s first final appearance at the Australian Open. She has already won the French Open in 2019 and Wimbledon last year.
  • This is by far the best result in Danielle Collins’ career. Her deepest run at the Grand Slam by now was French Open’s quarterfinal in 2020.
  • Barty leads Collins 3-1 in their previous matches
  • Collins won 2-0 in their last match in Adelaide in 2021

Ashleigh Barty has put up an amazing performance so far in the tournament and anything but an easy win in the finals is tough to imagine. No player has come even close to winning a set against Barty and that will be the case when Collins steps in against her at the Rod Laver Arena. The American is having the best tournament of her career but the Cinderella story will end up in the finals. Barty will win this one in straight sets.
