Badosa already won a tournament in 2022. She defeated Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 4-6 and 7-6 in the Sydney final.

At the Australian Open, the Spaniard made it to the round of 16 where she lost 6-3, 6-1 to Madison Keys.

Maria Sakkari is ranked no. 6 on the WTA list which is her career-best ranking.

The 26-year-old is 15-4 for the season including 11-3 on hard surface.

Sakkari is coming off a 7-5, 6-4 win over Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinal. Previously, Daria Saville had to quit during the match due to an injury after in the opening rounds Sakkari defeated Petra Kvitova and Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.

The Greek went through the later stage of the previous two tournaments this season. In Doha, she lost in the semifinal to Iga Swiatek 6-4 and 6-3 and before that she failed in the St. Petersburgh final to Anette Kontaviet by 5-7, 7-6, 7-5.

At the Australian Open, Sakkari made it to the fourth round when she was eliminated by Jessica Pegula 7-6 and 6-3.
